The Song 21 Guns by Green Day is a key piece to setting the tone for the theme I’ve chosen to pick. It is a heart touching Alternative Rock piece that ask the listeners a heart wrenching question. Is the cost of war and the effects it can have on so many people worth it? This piece as compared to others like “Semper Fi” by Trace Adkins which I will be sharing as well tells puts a bad taste in ones mouth about the military and combat.
This song being one of my personal favorites for obvious reasons; I would say to anyone who has seen my latest blog posts. Everything I’ve posted up until now has been in one way or another linked back to either the military in general or the Marine Corps. This country piece by Trace Adkins tells the listener about the bravery one must have to join such an elite fighting force. It tells of the possibilities and sacrifices one will make to earn the title of a United States Marine.
American Soldier by Toby Keith is a song I believe to pull at anyone’s heart strings who’s got respect for our great country and its flag that represents our freedoms and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. In the heart and mind of any men and women who have sacrificed together one thing is always true; that any one of those men and women would stand proudly next to one another when the enemy is at the door.
The Andrews Sisters with a much more upbeat and almost comical play on the military with this piece titled “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”. The piece is in reference to a boy from Chicago who regardless of his bugle talents, is drafted to go to Vietnam. Now this may not be funny to all but the twist they put on it with the upbeat cheerful voices it gives a different spin to the subject at hand.
Goodbye 09 by M.I.L.O started out as being one of my less favorite selections at the start of this post but quickly grew on me. The song is actually sung in a different language but in the video provided give’s those that only know the English language a taste of the powerful words behind the Rhythm. M.I.L.O does it in a rather aggressive manor, but sends a very powerful message with his words. Appreciate every moment because you may not know when its last, especially in an environment or setting like war.
Battle Born by Five Finger Death Puch is rather easily heard. However, to find the message about war in it you need to be a listener. The lyrics were meant to portray the tiredness of being on the road as a musician. Someone who travels as a musician or never traveled in the military may hear exactly that. The Theme behind these lyrics is different to someone such as myself. Ive traveled around the globe and back and shaken many many hands, just for different reasons than Fiver Finger Death Punch.
