I chose this painting by Ali Banisadr; created in 2010, this piece immediately grabbed my attention with the wide array of colors and shapes depicting an unmistakable chaos. After reading the description on the website, almost to no surprise I discovered the artists had lived through the Iran-Iraq war. This was likely influential in his passion for painting about painting the sounds and sights of war.
When first looking at the painting it appeared to me like an assortment of arranged shapes and colors distinctively placed. After more careful analyzation the shapes and colors began to portray an image of the blues being bodies of water or possibly sky. The green representing exactly what might come to mind in everyday life; grass. There is one color that immediately stuck out and drew me to this painting, I had to analyze it further. Based on my previous posts you can most likely guess it, the color red. Before even reading about the author, his background, or what he enjoyed portraying in his work; I knew that the color red in this image was a portrayal of death and or destruction. To even my own surprise, this created an instant connection between me and the painting. What I was even a bit troubled to discover was that this scene I saw in the painting brought peace to my mind. It’s likely because of the training I went through, experience’s I had while in the Marines, that I have a much more comfortable feeling with what might scare others.
Never would I have thought so much could be pulled and learned from a painting, but this one brings many emotions and feelings inside to the surface.
